Everyone has an accent; it’s part of who you are! The way you first learned sounds in your native language naturally shapes how you speak English. Sometimes this makes certain English sounds harder to pronounce, which can affect how clearly others understand you. The good news? With focused practice, you can make your English clearly understood while keeping your native accentedness as part of your unique identity.

The term “accent modification” is common, but we prefer to call it English pronunciation training. It’s an optional service for people who want to be consistently understood in their English accent.

At SpeakEasy! PRO, you simply select a native-language-specific course that focuses on the sounds and patterns most likely to impact your speech clarity. With guided listening, awareness, and practice, your English becomes smoother, clearer, and easier to follow—while keeping your unique voice.

Generally, to participate in this training, adults need to be at an intermediate ESL level or functionally conversational, approximately CEFR B1-C2. If you have been assessed, a minimum proficiency of a 7th-grade reading level is needed to follow the materials. We don’t waste time on sounds you pronounce clearly.

The key is steady practice. Learners who spend about an hour a day practicing and reviewing see the biggest changes. With our proven methods, many people make their speech about 50% easier for others to understand. That means you can reach a point where even new listeners understand you clearly the first time.

Most learners notice real changes in 3–6 months, as new speech habits start to show up naturally in conversation. To keep you going, we use fun technology and helpful feedback tools that make practice motivating and rewarding.

No. Learning an American accent does not erase your culture—it adds to your skills.

Think of it as becoming bi- or multi-lingual in pronunciation. With expert guidance and your consistent practice, you can “soften” your native accent so that your message is what listeners focus on, not the effort it takes to understand you. This makes communication smoother and keeps listeners more engaged, without taking away your unique identity.

In fact, being able to code-switch—using your native accent in one setting and a clearer English accent in another, is a powerful tool. It shows flexibility, strengthens your professional image, and earns respect across cultures.

It’s also important to know: the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) states that employers cannot make decisions based only on accent, unless it directly affects job performance.

Many roles do require strong communication skills, so improving your pronunciation is about removing barriers to your success—not your culture.
